Earthquakes on trauma

In my last post, I talked a lot about how trauma can resemble a nuclear disaster. While I still stand by that comparison, there's part of the trauma experience that wasn't well addressed there and that's the idea of complex, or chronic trauma. How does the idea of an explosive event and the resultant fallout compare to experiencing things like abuse [of any form], bullying, or other experiences that cumulatively overcame your capacity to cope? Before I get right into things, I want to just say that I'm not a mental health professional of any stripe.
